I CAN'T recall the last time I missed a Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers.

Even during my days as a cadet journalist in Kingaroy I'd head "home" for carnival each year.

As a child trying to find a good shady vantage point was exciting and I loved the colour and creativity of the floats - something I still appreciate to this very day.

Back from Kingaroy "wine, food and a good cold beer" occasionally drew me to the top half of Queens Park but I still made a point of going to the parade.

Call me old-fashioned or sentimental but I cleared the time in my schedule to attend parade because it reminded me of my childhood.

I have nothing but fond memories of carnival time which is why I'm so pleased it's only gaining popularity as the years go on.

Those of us who call Toowoomba home know how beautiful it can be, however carnival amps that beauty up another notch or two.

Everywhere you look there are splashes of colour and creativity - the hard work of so many dedicated local residents.

Colour and creativity our carnival visitors might not get to see on such a grand scale in their home towns.
