Top End Crime: Katherine school targeted by vandals

Police have asked the public for information after vandals wreak havoc at a Top End school.

March 14: A Katherine school has been broken into with extensive damage caused to the premises.

It is alleged that an unknown number of people unlawfully entered the Grevillea Road school grounds at 7.30pm on Wednesday night causing a large amount of damage to fencing and windows doing so.

It is then alleged that the group ransacked a classroom before fleeing the scene.

Detectives from the Serious Crime Unit are urging anyone with information on this incident to make contact on 131 444 and quote reference NTP2400026094.

Bottle thrown: Security guard cut in alleged booze shop robbery

March 13: A Casuarina security guard who was trying to remove a group of women from a store was left with a cut to his back after an allegedly stolen bottle was launched at him.

NT Police put out a call for information after the alleged incident at Casuarina on Tuesday evening.

At about 7.30pm, four females entered the Bradshaw Terrace bottle shop before allegedly stealing a quantity of alcohol.

The security guard had been “ushering out” the group when they allegedly threw a bottle at him.

The security guard suffered a laceration to his back and he attended the Royal Darwin Hospital for medical treatment.

Woman held up, car stolen by armed youths with star picket

March 13: A pair of youths, one armed with a star picket, held up a woman at a northern suburbs carpark before making off with her vehicle and later crashing it.

Police were called after a woman was approached by two male youths at the carpark at about 8.45am on Tuesday.

The youths, police say, allegedly threatened the woman with the weapon before stealing her white Mitsubishi ASX.

The pair fled the scene in the vehicle which was later found after it had been crashed and abandoned on Boulter Rd at Berrimah.

NT Police in a statement said officers were looking into whether the Casuarina car theft was related to a separate report in which a pair of male youths tried to steal a vehicle on Vanderlin Drive.

Popular sports club hit by second burglary in three days

March 12: NT Police are investigating after a popular Top End sports club was burgled for the second time in less than three days.

Police allege a stolen Mazda 3 was used in a ram raid at the Tracy Village Sports Club causing significant damage about 5.15am Tuesday.

The business in Lyons was previously burgled on Sunday.

The offenders allegedly stole a quantity of alcohol before fleeing the scene in the stolen vehicle.

Police said the vehicle crashed at the intersection of Nightcliff Rd and Bagot Rd, with four youths spotted fleeing the vehicle.

Strike Force Trident detectives have identified the three women involved and investigations are under way to identify and find the remaining man.

Firearm discharged, man hospitalised after home invasion

March 12: A man has been taken to hospital after an alleged armed robbery at his home in Bellamack where a firearm was discharged.

Police allege two men unlawfully entered the Eucharia St home at about 2am on Tuesday, armed with a firearm and edged weapon, before they attacked the man.

The offenders are alleged to have then ransacked the home, before stealing personal belongings and fleeing the scene.

The wounded man was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital where he received treatment for a laceration.

It is understood at least one of the offenders was known to the victim.

March 11: Three men charged after alleged smuggling attempts into remote communities

Police have confiscated 175kg of kava, 230g of cannabis, and 10 litres of rum bound for two East Arnhem communities.

An NT Police spokesman said two men were charged after they allegedly tried to take 100kg of kava into Gapuwiyak on March 6 in one incident.

The spokesman said the duo allegedly packaged the drug into small quantities “for the sole purpose of supplying in an Indigenous community”.

He said the pair had been charged with supplying a commercial quantity of kava, supplying a schedule two substance to an Indigenous community, and possess proceeds of crime.

In a separate incident, the spokesman said a 62-year-old man was charged with several drug- and alcohol-related offences after he allegedly chartered a flight from Jabiru to Galiwinku while carrying illicit substances.

The spokesman said Jabiru Police attended and screened the flight on March 9.

He said police allegedly found 75 kilograms of kava, 230 grams of cannabis and 10 bottles of rum during a baggage search.

“Officers will continue to target those who seek to gain benefit from the distribution of illicit substances in our remote communities and ensure that offenders are held fully accountable for their actions,” the spokesman said.

“The supply of illicit substances into remote communities has a devastating impact on the lives of people in vulnerable communities.”

March 11: Police seeking information about alleged armed robbery

Police are calling for information after a man allegedly pointed a firearm in the direction of a woman and stole her phone and bag.

Superintendent Karl Day said the man allegedly parked the white Ford Ranger he was driving next to a man and woman on Charlotte St, Fannie Bay, about 8pm Sunday.

He said it was understood the trio knew each other.

“Our top priority is the safety of the community,” Superintendent Day said.

“Anyone with information on this incident is urged to contact police on 131 444 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

March 11: Woman trapped, critically injured in car after single vehicle crash

A young woman has been rushed to hospital in a critical condition after she was trapped inside her crashed car.

St John NT Territory Response Manager Craig Garraway said the 19-year-old’s car collided with a pole about 11.30pm Sunday.

Mr Garraway said the NT fire service cut the woman free of her vehicle before paramedics took her to Royal Darwin Hospital.

He said the woman suffered multiple injuries as a result of the crash.

NT Health and police have been contacted for comment.

March 11: Four vehicles allegedly stolen, one used in ram raid

Five people have been arrested and more are on the run after four vehicles were allegedly stolen across the Top End.

Northern Watch Commander Clinton Stewart said one of the stolen vehicles was allegedly used during a ram raid at a Millner business just after 4am Monday.

Sergeant Stewart alleged the vehicle – containing two people – was used to strike the front of the tobacconist.

He said no one was injured in the incident and it was unclear whether any items had been stolen.

An R1 Tobacconist and Vapes supervisor said the incident marked the third time in a month the shop had been targeted.

The employee – who did not wish to be named – said he had been sleeping inside the store at the time of the incident and was able to ensure no merchandise was stolen.

Sergeant Stewart said each of the four stolen vehicles had been recovered.

He said three people had been arrested in relation to a second vehicle, but could not confirm how many people were outstanding in relation to the remaining vehicles.

“We’re unsure whether it relates to the other stolen vehicles, they were dumped earlier in the night.

“We’re still conducting investigations in regards to all the stolen vehicles.”
