Norah Head: Man dies after medical episode at Soldiers Beach

A man in his 70s has died on a Central Coast beach after suffering a suspected medical episode in the surf before he collapsed on the sand.

A man in his 70s has died on a Central Coast beach after suffering a suspected medical episode in the surf before he collapsed on the sand.

A spokesman from NSW police confirmed a man died after collapsing after leaving the surf at Soldiers Beach, Norah Head on Sunday afternoon.

“Emergency services were called to the Norah Head Surf Life Saving Club about 2pm however, the man aged in his 70s, was unable to be revived,” the spokesman said.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner by officers attached to Tuggerah Lake Police District.

The latest incident comes after a number of deaths on Central Coast beaches involving men in their 70s.

On February 5, a man in his 70s also died at Terrigal Beach after being pulled from the water unconscious.

At the time, a witness has told The Daily Telegraph the swimmer was initially found by an individual piloting a stand up paddleboard, who immediately called out to the shore for assistance.

The witness says they met the paddleboarder to assist with the situation, who had removed the swimmer from the water and placed them across the board.

Calls were made for emergency medical assistance over the radio before the pair returned the swimmer to the shore, where local surf lifesavers began to perform CPR.

Multiple paramedic crews attended to the man at the scene, where it is understood they attempted to resuscitate the swimmer for over an hour.

CPR was performed on the man but he died at the scene.

On January 12, a man in his 70s died after he was pulled from the water at Cabbage Tree Bay Beach at Norah Head.

Tuggerah Lakes Police District officers assisted with CPR until the arrival of paramedics, who transported the 73-year-old man to Wyong Hospital, however, he died a short time later.
