Despite frantic efforts to revive them, two men have died on separate New South Wales beaches after being pulled from the water.

About 8.20am on Wednesday morning, emergency services were called to Terrigal Beach following reports a man aged in his 70s had been pulled from the water unconscious.

Officers attached to Brisbane Water Police District, NSW Ambulance and Surf Life Saving NSW responded.

A witness has told The Daily Telegraph the swimmer was initially found by an individual piloting a stand up paddleboard, who immediately called out to the shore for assistance.

The witness says they met the paddleboarder to assist with the situation, who had removed the swimmer from the water and placed them across the board.

Calls were made for emergency medical assistance over the radio before the pair returned the swimmer to the shore, where local surf lifesavers began to perform CPR.

Multiple paramedic crews attended to the man at the scene, where it is understood they attempted to resuscitate the swimmer for over an hour.

CPR was performed on the man but he died at the scene.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Meanwhile, a man died at a beach on the Mid-North Coast about 3.40pm yesterday on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to Bartletts Beach, Bonny Hills, following reports a man had been pulled from the water unconscious.

Officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District, NSW Ambulance and Surf Life Saving NSW responded.

CPR was performed on the man – aged 74 – however he couldn’t be revived.

A Port Macquarie Hastings ALS Lifeguards spokesperson said an off duty lifesaver was at the beach at the time and dragged the man from the water.

“This is unfortunately the second serious surf incident within a matter of days since lifeguard patrols ceased in the area for the summer last week,” the spokesperson said.

A report will also be prepared for the coroner.
