“Not afraid to get our hands dirty”: Duo’s new venture cleans up

In a bid to help Australians bring back the tradition of “leaning on the bin and having a yarn to the neighbours”, two sisters have started a new venture.

A hard work ethic was something Anika and Kahli Cameron’s parents passed on to them from a young age and a quality they’ve continued to carry well into their adulthood.

Now, the sisters have started their own business venture Bin Busy Cleaning, and while the work isn’t for the faint-hearted, the pair is thriving just weeks after launching.

“It’s definitely not a glamorous job, and Kahli has a stronger stomach than me,” Anika said.

“For us, it goes back to that classic Australian tradition of leaning on your bin and having a yarn to your neighbour, but if those bins haven’t had a clean in a while, there’s no way you’re hanging around them.”

The two sisters previously owned a coffee shop together out west, but had to step away from the venture when Anika became a mum.

Describing each other as best friends, the duo was determined to start another business together as the kids grew older and the time was right.

“We get along together so well. Of course we have our moments, but we’re basically best friends,” Anika said.

“The best part is you know you’re going to work with someone who is going to get their hands dirty and get the job done – we’re both really hard workers and we take a lot of pride in our work.”

Currently, the pair services residential clients in areas including Gowrie Junction, Kingsthorpe and Crows Nest, but as the business continues to grow, they plan to offer their help to commercial clients and extend their coverage to other parts of the region.

Benefits of regular bin cleans include the reduction of germs, bacteria, mould and smell, as well as the elimination of unwanted pests.

The new business owners provide a range of cleaning schedule options and pricing.

“It certainly works in everyone’s favour to have a bin clean once a week, as that frequency takes less time and water to get the job done,” Anika said.

“Our feedback from our weekly customers has been really positive – they now say ‘it’s a pleasure to walk out and put rubbish in the bin’ and that’s what we like to hear.”
