Three teens caught after alleged car theft in Alawa

Police say a group of three young people were behind the theft of a popular make of car in Alawa.

Two young people have been charged over the theft of a car from Alawa.

A Toyota Rav4 was stolen from a home in Hurtle Street, Alawa about 3.20am on Thursday, Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said.

Electronic monitoring identified a 14-year-old girl in the area.

Later that morning, investigators saw the car on the Stuart Highway heading towards Katherine.

Police found the car dumped and three young people running into the bush.

The young people were later caught.

A 15-year-old girl was charged with aggravated unlawful entry, aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle, stealing and serious breach of bail

A 17-year-old was charged with damage to property and serious breach of bail.

Bother will face court later today.

A 14-year-old girl was released pending further investigations.

Palmerston school broken into

Palmerston school staff have started their Wednesday sweeping up broken glass and fixing doors after an alleged break-in by a group of youths overnight.

Northern Watch Commander Josh Cunningham said officers were notified after a fire alarm went off at the Palmerston College years 7-9 campus at 8.30pm Tuesday.

The suspects had left the area by the time police and fire crews arrived at the scene.

“A search of the premises identified a number of broken windows, damage to a door and two fire extinguishers that have been deployed inside the building and in some of the rooms,” Commander Cunningham said.

“A review of the footage identifies that it appears to be seven youths that have broken into the place and damaged the property.”

A Department of Education spokeswoman said the school remains open on Wednesday and “learning will continue with minor alternative arrangements made.”

“We’re calling for any person that may have seen or know anything in relation to the incident to contact Crimestoppers (1800 333 000) or police (131 444),” Commander Cunningham said.

Teens arrested after vehicle stolen in Nightcliff

Two teenagers have been arrested after breaking into a Nightcliff home and stealing a car.

Police allege on Monday night a 13-year-old and a 17-year-old were roaming the streets in Nightcliff before breaking into a property on Nightcliff Rd.

It is alleged they stole a number of personal items including keys to a grey Toyota Camry, which they drove off.

Between 3am and 6.30am on Tuesday, the vehicle was see around Darwin and Palmerston and stopping at a service station in Malak.

Following investigations, detectives from Strike Force Trident located both teenagers in possession of stolen property and arrested them.

A 17-year-old was charged with aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle, aggravated unlawful entry of a dwelling, two counts of stealing, driving a motor vehicle while unlicensed and serious breach of bail.

A 13-year-old was charged with aggravated unlawful entry of a dwelling, two counts of stealing and serious breach of bail.

Both were remanded in custody to appear in court on Wednesday.

Woman‘s ribs fractured during alleged domestic violence assault

A woman was left with serious injuries, including fractured ribs, after she was allegedly assaulted by her partner in a Palmerston suburb.

At 8.40pm on Monday, the Joint Emergency Service Communication Centre was called to Schombacher Circuit in Moulden after a 36-year-old man allegedly assaulted his partner.

The victim was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital suffering from fractured ribs and head injuries.

Detectives are expected to charge the man with recklessly endangering causing serious harm and aggravated assault.

“This was a completely senseless, cowardly, violent act,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Jon Beer said,

“Investigations are ongoing and police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has dashcam footage, to make contact on 131 444.

Ninth person charged over ram raid at popular Territory tavern

Another member of the group that allegedly ram raided the Berry Springs Tavern has been arrested.

Detectives arrested a 43-year-old man in Casuarina on Monday and charged him with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of damage to property, one count of aggravated unlawful entry, stealing and breach of bail.

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court on Tuesday.

Nine people have now been charged in relation to the ram raid at the popular Top End pub, with six of the 10 people allegedly involved charged last Wednesday.

A 30-year-old man was arrested before five young people, aged 16 and 17 handed themselves in to police at the Wadeye Police Station.

On Friday, two men, aged 19 and 29 were found by police at a property in Wadeye and charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of damage to property, aggravated unlawful entry and stealing.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said investigations into the ram raid and theft of the vehicles used were ongoing.

“Strike Force Trident is working closely with the Drug and Organised Crime Division along with local police from Wadeye and the Daly River Region.” he said.

“NT Police are committed to ensuring all those responsible will be held to account.”

Man in hospital after alleged Katherine assault

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after an alleged assault involving a blunt “offensive weapon” in Katherine.

Shortly before 11.30pm on Sunday, police were alerted to the incident involving a 62-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman in Katherine South.

The man was taken to Katherine District Hospital with serious injuries, while the woman was arrested a short time later.

Police said they expected to charge her with unlawfully cause serious harm and armed with an offensive weapon.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Byron May said police are seeking witnesses to the alleged assault.

“Detectives from the Katherine Criminal Investigation Branch are continuing to investigate the incident,” Senior Sergeant May said.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 131 444 or you can report anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Young armed robbers allegedly used knife, axe and bat

Staff at a Darwin service station were allegedly threatened by young people carrying an axe, knife and baseball bat.

About 9pm on Saturday, police were called to the petrol station in Coconut Grove after a report of three boys allegedly entering the premises with their faces covered and weapons in hand.

“Once inside, the youths stole food and drinks and when approached by the staff member, they threatened to cause him harm before leaving the area with the stolen items,” Northern Watch Commander Sonia Kennon said.

“The three youths were arrested shortly afterwards, still carrying their weapons and stolen items.”

The three boys, two aged 12 and the other 15, were each charged with one count of aggravated robbery and one count of going armed in public.

They were remanded to appear in court on Monday.

“This is incredibly concerning behaviour that has no place within our community,” Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said.

“Strike Force Trident would urge anyone who witnesses this sort of violent behaviour to immediately call triple-0.”

Police also responded to two alleged vehicle robberies overnight.

About 8.15pm on Saturday, a Malak resident heard a noise outside his unit and went out to find his motorcycle missing, police say.

Commander Kennon said the man then heard people trying to start his bike a short distance away.

“He located his bike with some youths in the adjacent park and engaged in a scuffle with them as he attempted to get his bike back,” Commander Kennon said.

“The youths threatened him with violence (and) fearing for his safety, he retreated.

“The youths and the bike which is described as a 2001 blue two stroke YZ 250 (are) still currently outstanding.”

About 1.30am on Sunday, police received a report of an unlawful entry in Karama and a stolen vehicle.

A short time later, officers found the vehicle travelling at 40km/h in the northern suburbs.

Police arrested two teenagers, aged 13 and 16.

The pair was conveyed home and will later appear in court for their alleged offences.
