Eight charged after ram raid on Berry Springs Tavern

Police have arrested more of the group involved in a ram-raid on a Berry Springs pub. See inside their hunt to find the alleged offenders.

Two more members of the group that allegedly ram raided the Berry Springs Tavern have been arrested.

The men, aged 19 and 29 were found by police at a property in Wadeye on Friday.

They have been charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of damage to property, aggravated unlawful entry and stealing.

It comes after six of the 10 people allegedly involved in a ram raid on a popular Top End pub were charged on Wednesday.

NT Police said “an extensive investigation” was conducted after the alleged incident on October 13 at the Berry Springs Tavern.

A 30-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday in relation to the incident.

Following his arrest, five young people aged between 16 and 17 handed themselves in to the Wadeye Police Station.

The two Toyota LandCruisers used to break into premises were stolen from properties in Darwin and captured on CCTV at a service station in Jingili before driving to Berry Springs.

Police found one of the vehicles abandoned in Wadeye on Saturday where it was impounded.

However the vehicle was allegedly stolen again on Tuesday and used to drive through the police compound.

The car was later sighted but driven off at high speed along bush tracks before being found abandoned outside the Wadeye community.

Five people have been charged, each with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of damage to property, one count of aggravated unlawful entry and one count of stealing.

A 16-year-old was released to be summonsed.

They all remain in custody and are expected to face court on Thursday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Bland said police would continue to search for the other alleged offenders and bring them to justice.

“This has been an extensive investigation involving members from Strike Force Trident, Dog Operations and members from Daly River and Wadeye.”

“This group has caused distress to local business owners and it’s simply not fair that the community has to endure this type of behaviour,” he said.

The Berry Springs Tavern owners have taken to Facebook to congratulate investigators.

“Six down, four to go … nice work Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services,” they wrote on Facebook.
