A DECISION on a controversial service station and car wash proposed for flood land on the New England Highway at Crows Nest has been pushed back for a third time, with council granting an extension on its decision-making period until October 29.

It had previously extended its decision-making period until July 27.

The project caused an outcry from residents, with more than 30 people making submissions to the council over the proposal.

The council had identified 16 issues with the service station and carwash proposed by Marakech Pty Ltd, some of which if addressed will require significant re-working of the facility's design.

Council officers' concerns mirrored those of the public and primarily relate to the situation of the development on a floodplain, and the possibility of contamination of one of the Toowoomba region's main drinking water supplies, Cressbrook Dam.

Marakech Pty Ltd is responding to council's list of outstanding issues.
