Kearneys Springs residents woke before midnight to the sound of alarms blaring, as a fire tore through a Toowoomba school’s classroom.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesman said four crews arrived at Highlands Christian College after 11pm on Friday, September 29, and found a fire burning within a classroom.

He said firefighters were able to stop the blaze from spreading to the second level of the building.

Initial reports suggested the fire did not cause significant damage to the building.

The spokesman said the fire investigation team surveyed the scene about 12-1am, however he would not comment on whether or not the fire was deemed suspicious.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said officers were called to blaze, but quickly left the scene with QFES as it was non-suspicious.

No one was injured.
