Neighbours have told of a paramedic leaving a Toowoomba home in tears after an eight-year-old girl was found dead by police, leading to a man and woman being charged with murder.

The man and woman, who are known to the girl, have been charged following investigations into her sudden death at a Rangeville home over the weekend.

Police were called to a residence about 5.30pm on Saturday, January 8, where the child was found deceased.

Following investigations led by detectives from the Toowoomba Child Protection and Investigation Unit, with support of the Child Trauma Unit and the Homicide Investigation Unit, a 50-year-old Rangeville man and a 46-year-old Rangeville woman were taken into custody on Tuesday, January 11.

They have both been charged with one count each of murder, torture and failure to provide necessities of life.

Both people were known to the child.

The Chronicle understands paramedics were called to the Rangeville address about 5pm on Saturday after reports the girl could not be revived.

They located the girl deceased and called in police.

A neighbour, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said he saw one of the paramedics run from the house crying with a phone in her hand.

“Within minutes there were police everywhere,” he said.

The neighbour said there were more than 10 police vehicles, including plain-clothed officers and a forensic team.

The matter is still under police investigation.

The neighbour said he saw a large crowd gathering at the home on Saturday and heard loud music in the hours before the police and paramedics arrived.

“The family kept to themselves,” he said.

“No one in our street knows them or what happened.”

The man and woman were denied police bail and will appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday, January 12.
