Makeup of new council firms with 73% of vote counted

WITH 73.18% of the official first preference vote counted, the makeup of the new Toowoomba Regional Council looks to have been decided.

WITH 73.18% of the official first preference vote counted, the makeup of the new Toowoomba Regional Council looks to have been decided. 

Coming in first place with 50,673 or 6.09% of votes is former journalist and editor Rebecca Vonhoff.

Following closely behind her is Cr Geoff McDonald, with 48,293 or 5.8% of votes.

In third place is Cr Megan O'Hara Sullivan, with 46,226 or 5.55% of votes.

The top three are trailed by Cr Carol Taylor (5.53%), Cr James O'Shea (5.39%), Cr Bill Cahill (5.32%), former Queensland Attorney-General Kerry Shine (5.28%), Cr Nancy Sommerfield (5.21%), Toowoomba businesswoman Melissa Taylor (4.65%).

Toowoomba teacher Tim McMahon holds onto 10th place with 31,428 or 3.78% of votes.

He is a comfortable 7000-odd votes ahead of both former Chamber of Commerce president Joy Mingay (2.94%) and indigenous health leader Lizzie Adams (2.93%).

Mayor Paul Antonio was re-elected comfortably for his third term, though the result is yet to be officially declared by the Electoral Commission of Queensland.
