A Townsville councillor says he is sorry and will work hard to make up for his mistake after he was charged with drink-driving earlier this month.
In a statement released on Monday afternoon, Liam Mooney said he had been charged with low-range drink-driving and would be required to appear in court.
Cr Mooney said he recorded a reading of .068 on Sunday, August 7.
“It is a serious mistake that I do not take lightly, and I apologise for my actions,” he said.
“As an elected representative I understand I have let the residents of my division down.
“I’ve also let my family down, and I have apologised to them and the Mayor (Jenny Hill).
“However, I can only accept whatever punishment the court determines and work even harder to make up for this mistake.”
It comes after Redland City Council mayor Karen Williams lost her licence for six months and was ordered to do 80 hours of community service after she pleaded guilty to a high-range drink-driving charge.
She was sentenced in the Cleveland Magistrates Court on August 1, a month after crashing her luxury council-owned Lexus station wagon into a fence and tree, hours after she handed down the city’s budget.
