The case against a Townsville nurse accused of stealing almost $700k from her disabled brother’s super has moved forward.

Natalie Ann Embregts’ matter was mentioned in Townsville District Court on Monday.

Her lawyer, Andrew Peel of Purcell Taylor Lawyers gave an update of the case to Judge Gregory Lynham.

“It is a complicated fraud matter; we are in the midst of negotiations,” Mr Peel said.

He said Embregts would be passing on further details to him this week, involving facts obtained by the arresting officers.

When asked by Judge Lynham if the negotiations would lead to a resolution, Mr Peel said he was “hopeful”.

“At worst I think it’s a contested sentence on a portion of the quantum, but we remain hopeful that it will proceed as an agreed statement of facts,” he said.

Embregts was charged in 2021 after allegedly spending $696,000 of her foster brother’s superannuation over an almost 12 year period.

The registered nurse, who at the time of being charged, worked at the Mundingburra Medical Centre, faces a count of fraud – dishonest application of property of another by director or member of governing body.

At the time of the alleged offending, she was in charge of his finances as a power of attorney.

She was charged after an investigation by the Office of the Public Guardian, who alleged Embregts restricted her brother from contacting his family and friends, and she was stripped of her power of attorney role.

Embregts’ matter was set for mention in October.

Her bail was enlarged.
