Boxing Day has brought thousands to local shopping centres

Thousands of residents have flooded to Townsville Shopping Centre, trying to find a bargain this Boxing Day. See which stores did the best.

Thousands have flocked to shopping centres across Townsville hoping to grab a bargain this Boxing Day.

Townsville Shopping Centre’s Boxing Day Bonanza attracted thousands of customers, with more than 130 stores prepared their biggest deals for boxing day.

Universal Store saw hundreds of customers per hour, in what store manager Kaitlyn Green says may have been the store’s busiest day of the year.

“It’s probably been the busiest [Boxing Day] I’ve done, way busier than last year,” Ms Green said.

“There’s a lot more people wanting to spend after Christmas.”

Stores such as Universal Store, Peter Alexander and Mimco had lines flooding out the door, and shopper Katie Shirley says she understands why.

“Peter Alexander is the one shop I always stop at on Boxing Day,” Ms Shirley said.

“I love their pyjamas, and I can’t pass up a bargain.”

Ms Green and Ms Shirley said the sales come at the perfect time.

“Everyone gets Christmas money, so they want to come out shopping,” Ms Green said.

“I always go shopping on Boxing Day to spend some money I got for Christmas,” Ms Shirley said.

But don’t worry if you weren’t able to make it, sales will remain for a few days to a week, depending on the retailer.
