When Phoebe Le Brocque was a young teen living in Toowoomba, she had the whole world ahead of her, but she never anticipated she would be where she is now.
The former St Ursula’s College student grew up with bluegrass musicians for parents and couldn’t recall a time where she wasn’t listening to music at home.
Despite studying history and Chinese at UQ, the now 27-year-old has been working as a creative director for Real Feels Music for the past two years.
Her proudest moment thus far was when she returned to her hometown of Toowoomba to film the No Doz music video for Australian rock band Waax.
Locations featured throughout the clip included the interior and exterior of pinball arcade bar Flipp’d and the skatepark on Hume Street.
“When I first heard the song, it reminded me of London fashion and the landscape I wanted to see behind Maz (De Vita) when she was in the trolley,” Ms Le Brocque said.
“I didn’t want to see city skyscrapers – I wanted to see industrial laneways with murals painted everywhere and I instantly thought of Toowoomba.
“It was really surprising but we didn’t get any funny looks when we were filming – even in the skate park, people just seemed completely unfazed which was pretty hilarious.”
Phoebe’s dad was also on set for filming and marked the first time he got to see his daughter at work.
It was the third clip she’s directed for the band and after releasing it just two months ago, the video has already hit 20,000 views on YouTube.
While Covid-19 presented many challenges for the arts and film industries, Phoebe said it also created opportunities for Australia becoming a prime destination for international filmmakers and their projects.
The creative director has a few other projects underway and hopes to return to Toowoomba in the future to film at the Empire Theatre.
