The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

The GoFundMe for father of two Bryce Williams who was tragically killed when he was hit by a car north of Toowoomba has become the biggest fundraiser in Australia for the website recently.

An enormous $371,000 has been raised in the days after Mr Williams was hit by a car on the evening of September 6, while jogging along Nanango Brooklands Road.

The 33-year-old sadly died at the scene.

The GoFundMe campaign was launched to help support the Mount Coolum man’s partner Abbey Ginns and children Woodi and Rome.

“Everyone who knows Bryce, whether it’s really well or not, has felt his loss tremendously,” campaign organiser Samantha Servodio wrote on the fundraising page.

“He was the funniest man we all knew, greatest dad, and a beyond loving partner.

“Bryce was such a hard worker, always going above and beyond to support his family, so while he can’t, we ask you all to help support his loved ones during this hard and heartbreaking time that is honestly incomprehensible.”

GoFundMe Australia’s regional director Nicola Britton passed her condolences on to the family.

“Our thoughts are with Bryce’s family, friends and loved ones, during this extremely difficult time following the news of his sudden passing,” she said.

“The news has clearly touched the hearts of many Australians as over 1500 donations have been made to the GoFundMe page for the family, with donations made from each state and Territory in Australia.”

With almost $400,000 raised in donations so far, the campaign has quickly raised the highest fundraising amount for the Sunshine Coast and Australia.

In comparison, the second highest campaign in the country currently on the site has raised more than $250,000, followed by another with an amount of more than $93,000.

“It’s incredibly inspiring to see how the Sunshine Coast Community, as well as the rest of the country, have come together to dig deep for Abbey, Woodi and Rome, to help to lighten the load and support them during this difficult time,” Ms Britton said.

“The GoFundMe fundraiser for Bryce’s family has fast become the top fundraiser, in terms of amount raised, on the Sunshine Coast in the past five years, and is a testament to the generous spirit of Australians and the local community who have banded together and given so generously in honour of Bryce’s memory.”

Ms Ginns is a Queensland-based influencer, business owner and known as being the sister of Big Brother Australia’s 2014 winner Ryan Ginns.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Tuesday about 6.30pm, including Queensland Police Service (QPS) and paramedics from Queensland Ambulance Service.

A spokeswoman from QPS said a 51-year-old man from Nanango was assisting police and a white Ford Falcon was seized.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
