New South Wales police have charged 31-year-old Boggabilla man Ricky Duke Doolan with the murder of Richard Michael Mills.
Investigators will allege Doolan was involved in a fight with Mr Mills, 32, in a backyard of a Boggabilla home on Friday and that during this fight Doolan fatally stabbed Mr Mills.
A GoFundMe was campaign launched by Mr Mills brother Matty Mills to cover funeral costs.
Matty Mills is a presenter for Getaway and Channel 9 and he shared the campaign with his 14,700 Instagram followers, attracting more than $10,000 in donations.
Some of Australia’s top celebs donated to the campaign including $1000 from Bachelorette Australian star Brooke Blurton and $300 from Preppers star and creator Nakkiah Lui.
Ms Blurton and Matty Mills host a podcast together.
The GoFundMe campaign is to support his partner, son and stepdaughter.
“This is one of the most challenging situations a family can face, and we are seeking support from the community to help us lay our beloved Mikey Mills (Hippi) to rest,” Matty Mills said.
Just before 11.40pm on Friday, emergency services were called to Brown Street.
On arrival, officers attached to the New England Police District found a 32-year-old man suffering stab wounds.
Police started CPR, before he was treated by Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics.
He was taken to Goondiwindi Hospital where he died a short time later.
Doolan was located at a home in Marshal Street, Goondiwindi, about 1.30am.
He was taken into custody by Queensland police and extradited to New South Wales on Monday where he was later charged with murder.
The initial police report states that he came willingly and did not put up a fight.
Crime scenes were established at both locations, which will be examined by specialist forensic police.
Detectives have established Strike Force Bruntnell to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Doolan appeared via video link from the watch house in prison browns and with a bandaged left hand.
His solicitor Kirsty Smith told the court there would be no application for bail and that her client did not oppose the extradition warrant.
Magistrate Gary Finger ordered Doolan be remanded into the custody of Detective Senior Constable Matt Roberts of the Moree Police to be extradited to New South Wales and to appear in the Moree Local Court on Tuesday.
