After being the iconic home of Mexican food in Hobart since 1977, the Morrison Street restaurant will expand its premises into a new atrium-style dining, complete with a new bar and menu.

The newly rebranded Casa De Amor was formerly Tacos Mexican Restaurant, purchased by owner Kranthi Pasham in 2022.

Mr Pasham said the rebrand into the ‘house of love’ last year comes from a renewed focus on service, food and experience.

“We want this space to be about warmth and passion from our food to our service,” he said.

“We also want to go back to the more authentic Mexican food – Mexican cuisine is more than tacos.”

The new seating area sits inside the historical Gibsons City Flour Mill building, with the open-air space a brighter version of the moodier, interior dining.

The space will feature its own bar and tapas menu, the aptly named Atrium bar designed to be a quieter area for drinks outside of the street-front restaurant space.

“It will keep the vibes going out to the back of the building and allow us to expand seating,” Mr Pasham said.

“We will have a more artisanal offering, sourcing mescal and tequila from Mexico as well as some of the smaller distilleries in the state for the drinks menu.”

The new Atrium bar has received approval through council and is expected to be up and running in the next five weeks.

“We are bringing the authentic Mexican taste to Tasmania, just like the up-and-coming restaurants on the mainland,” Mr Pasham said.
