Young Hobart apprentice Riley Braslin being remembered after tragic crash

A young electrical apprentice who lost his life in a car crash in Hobart this weekend is being remembered.

Riley Braslin is being remembered as a “beautiful, young man” and a “genuine friend” to all.

The 18-year-old apprentice electrician died tragically after a two-car collision in Hobart in the early morning hours of Sunday.

Tributes from the various clubs and organisations Riley was involved in began flowing early, with many also sending their sympathies to Riley’s parents Megan and Rikki.

Moonah-based business RCBO Electrical led the heartfelt messages online, sharing their devastation at the loss of Riley, who was an electrical apprentice with the family-run business.

“We are absolutely devastated to hear the heartbreaking news that our Apprentice, Riley Braslin has tragically passed away,” RCBO Electrical managing director Colin Kelly wrote online.

‘Taken far too soon, Riley you will forever be in our hearts.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Riley’s family during this time.

“Rest easy mate.”

An avid sportsman, Riley also played for seasons at the Hobart Phoenix Basketball Association and with the Brighton Junior Football Club.

The Hobart Phoenix Basketball Association said Riley joined the club in 2022 and 2023, describing him as popular “on and off the court” and always bringing “100 per cent”.

Derwent Valley Mayor Michelle Dracoulis also sent out her well wishes to the Braslin family online, offering thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.

“I pray the others injured in this horrific accident have a fast and full recovery,” she said.

“My deepest gratitude goes out to our first responders and dedicated health personnel.”

The investigation into the accident, which left three other people with serious injuries, remains ongoing.
