The Risdon Vale community has been left distraught by the loss of 30-year-old Jason ‘Crack’ Cox, calling him the “heart” of the community.

Mr Cox was one of two motorcyclists killed in a horror head-on motorcycle crash on Tasmania’s East Coast on Saturday.

Childhood friend Charlie Holmyard said he “couldn’t ask for a better person” than Mr Cox.

“He always wanted to liven your day up and he was really generous with other people,” he said.

Recently working on construction at the new Bridgewater Bridge, Mr Cox was also described as a lover of anything that went fast – whether that be cars or motorbikes.

“He was definitely a revhead,” Mr Holmyard said.

“And he was really invested in fixing up his car and pretty much anyone else’s.”

A source close to Mr Cox and his family described him as a man who had worked “his way up from nothing” to become a light in the community.

“He would fix up people’s cars, he’d lend you $20, he’d give you anything he could to help out,” the man said.

“The whole community is in mourning now after hearing of his passing, this has put the community back 20 years.”

Mr Cox was also described as being more well-known than “the Premier or Prime Minister” in Risdon Vale.

Lovingly called “Crack” by all who knew him for his ability to have a ‘crack’ at anything, friends of Mr Cox say he had just reached a major milestone of getting approved for a home loan.

“He was a success story for the area and it’s sad that this one accident changes things,” a close friend said.

“There’s so many young people who have been destroyed by this one event.”

A GoFundMe appeal has been set up by Mr Cox’s cousin Tracy Cox to raise money for his funeral.

“Crack was a well known and loved guy will be remembered by all,” Ms Cox wrote.

Mr Cox is survived by his mother Sue and his partner Christie.

The other man killed in the East Coast motorcycle crash was 23-year-old Risdon Vale father Dylan Hayes.

He has been remembered as a larrikin, protector of his five younger brothers and sisters and doting dad to his young daughter.

A full investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
