Highfields land on sale for first time in 150 years

A BLOCK of land in Highfields that hasn't been on sale for 150 years has been placed on the market.

A BLOCK of land in Highfields that hasn't been on sale for 150 years has been placed on the market.

The land has been owned by one family over that time and the current owners, two men in their 70s from Chinchilla, have decided to sell.

Landmark Harcourt agent Ross Murray said the land could be worth between $6 - $10m.

Mr Murray said Toowoomba Regional Council had granted approval for low and medium density residential development on the site at 1 O'Brien Rd, Highfields.

He said the owners didn't want to develop the land themselves.

"They feel now is as good a time as any to test the market," he said.

The agent said about 20% of the 23.7ha block was covered by timber and while it could be removed, it would take some work.

The site is behind Mary MacKillop Catholic College Highfields and has access from Kratzke Rd.

Mr Murray said a neighbouring block of a similar size had sold four months ago for $6.25m and other comparable sites in Highfields for $10m.

He said the Highfields area was booming with the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing and Wellcamp Airport likely to push demand for housing.

The first stage of a new housing estate The Avenues of Highfields gained approval from council on February 16.

Developers plan to start work on a gated residential complex called Highfields Mews in the new financial year.
