A new eatery in Nobby Beach is turning heads – and filling feeds – with its Japanese-inspired sandos and a full matcha menu, putting a unique spin on Gold Coast dining.

Bobby Bang’s at The Oxley has quickly gained a following for its wagyu sando, a traditional Japanese-style sandwich made with panko-crumbed wagyu, curry mayo, cabbage slaw, and house-made pickled mustard.

Co-owner Emmi Munday said the eatery, which is the brainchild of the team behind local favourite Lucky Bao, is bringing something new to the area.

“We wanted to bring the same concept (as the Lucky Bao) down but more breakfast and lunch – with an Asian twist,” she said.

“They (the sandos) are a traditional Japanese toastie done on shokupan, a Japanese milk bread.

“They’re quite famous all over Japan, and there’s nothing like that around this neck of the woods.”

For adventurous brunch-goers, the breakfast ramen combines crispy bacon, egg noodles, truffle manchego, and a perfectly cooked ramen egg; or there’s the Bobbies Benny – which is topped with torched miso mayonnaise.

But it’s not just the food drawing crowds – the café’s matcha menu is also making an impact.

Since opening about a month ago, Bobby Bang’s has sold more than 750 matcha drinks.

Ms Munday, who moonlights as a holistic health coach, said while they don’t serve coffee, they have a full menu dedicated to ceremonial matcha alongside creative options from coconut water-based “matcha clouds”, strawberry iced matcha with house-made jam, and sparkling matcha fizzed with yuzu-ginger soda.

“We whisk it at the correct temperature to release all the natural goodness in the matcha,” she said.”

Bobby Bang’s is the latest opening to The Atrium area of the Oxley, joining recent arrivals Naheda’s dip house and Gelato Gemelli.
