UPDATE: Geoff McDonald should be the region's next deputy mayor, according to The Chronicle readers.
In the first post-election council meeting tomorrow, councillors will vote on who will be the next Toowoomba Regional Council deputy mayor.
We asked our readers who they think would be best suited to the job, with 76% voting for Geoff McDonald.
He holds a clear lead over Carol Taylor (20%) and Nancy Sommerfield (3%).
The position is traditionally awarded to the councillor with the most votes, in this case Carol Taylor, but the decision rests in the hands of the councillors.
EARLIER: THE region will have a deputy mayor tomorrow after the first meeting of council is held.
The declaration of office ceremony will be held from 10am, with the post-election council meeting to start at noon.
Three candidates have emerged as frontrunners in the race to be deputy mayor with Carol Taylor, Nancy Sommerfield and Geoff McDonald looking the most likely.
Tradition holds that the role of deputy mayor goes to the councillor who secured the most votes in the recent election but it will still be put to a vote.
The 10 councillors will vote on the position with Mayor Paul Antonio choosing not to take part in the process.
The councillors will also learn at the meeting what portfolios they will oversee.
The meeting is a statutory requirement for all new councils.
