A disability-support horse, worth $40,000 and believed to have been stolen, has been found safe and well with its “rightful owner”.
But mystery surrounds where Rosie had disappeared to.
Police on Thursday morning announced they were hunting the heartless thieves who caused vulnerable kids “a lot of pain” after stealing the beloved pony from a farm near Bendigo this week.
Rosie, the black and white Gypsy Cob mare, has helped more than 100 children with disabilities as a therapy horse over the past two years.
A police statement said the $40,000 horse was stolen from The Axedale Stables on Canny Rd between 8pm on Monday and 8am on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the equestrian centre said the vulnerable children who “deeply love” their therapy horse Rosie were “devastated” by her disappearance.
“All animal therapy sessions have been cancelled this week due to the impact of her theft,” a spokeswoman said.
But by midday, police confirmed the horse had been recovered and was with its rightful owner.
It’s understood investigators found the horse had never been stolen.
But where Rosie had disappeared to for more than 48 hours remains a mystery.
