Despite a frosty weekend visitors came out in droves to explore the delicate yellow field of sunflowers at Ten Chain Farm in the Lockyer Valley.
It was a particularly special event for Wide Bay resident Shelly Owen, who has long reminisced the days on her grandfather’s farm at Dalby where she would frolic through his sunflower field.
“I’ve always loved sunflowers ever since I was about six-years-old and would run through my grandfather’s sunflower field with a towel as a cape,” she laughed.
Having not visited another sunflower field since her childhood, Ms Owen has patiently waited for the opportunity to come back out to the southwest, bringing along her partner and group of friends to the experience.
“We had to take a last minute trip up to Darwin the weekend of the original event and I was so devastated,” she said.
“When I saw it had been postponed to this weekend, I knew it was meant to be.
“It really was the most magical day, everyone in the field was just on cloud nine because sunflowers just make you feel happy.”
The weekend long event held on June 8 and 9 is the third for the Flagstone Creek farm, who held their first public event in January last year.
