Nothing brings Toowoomba couple Leisa and Serge Rossignol more joy than welcoming thousands of guests from across the Sunshine State into their French-inspired garden.
But the pair have plenty to celebrate this year after they were named Grand Champions in The Chronicle’s 2023 Garden Competition.
“We are so excited to be chosen as Grand Champions – this is such a special tradition in Toowoomba so it’s such a privilege,” Ms Rossignol said.
“Our favourite part is welcoming people through – that’s really what it’s all about for us.”
Visitors may notice a few new additions to the award-winning garden this year after the front courtyard was completely redesigned, with the removal of the lawn and a meadow of wildflowers planted in its place.
Despite the many months spent preparing their spring garden which surrounds their century-old cottage, Ms Rossignol said she did not consider it a chore because of how much joy her garden brought her.
The Rossignol couple reclaimed the title after their first victory in 2021, while competitors Bob and Val Ford won the trophy in 2022.
While nothing has been set in stone, Ms Rossignol said she was strongly considering becoming an entrant at next year’s event too.
“For anyone like me who grew up in the Darling Downs, the Carnival of Flowers has been such a top-level event and we would love to be part of the 75th anniversary year,” she said.
