Wally Lewis has crowned a new queen, today marrying long-time partner Lynda Adams in a secret ceremony in Brisbane.
While whispers earlier this year suggested the rugby league Immortal would wed in Tropical North Queensland, the 65-year-old stunned friends and fans alike by tying the knot at Brisbane’s historic St Mary’s Anglican Church at Kangaroo Point.
Lewis, famously nicknamed “The King” during his glittering career, was every inch the proud groom as he exchanged vows with Adams, surrounded by a tight-knit circle of guests.
Among them was his lifelong mate and former Maroons teammate Gene Miles, who stood proudly by his side as best man. Paul Vautin was also in attendance.
Lewis looked dapper in a crisp black tuxedo with a white rose boutonniere, while the bride wore a unique full-length gown featuring a structured, long-sleeved bodice and a contrasting skirt adorned with embellishments.
Following the intimate ceremony, guests were whisked away by coach to one of Brisbane’s most prestigious venues, Old Government House, where a grand celebration awaited.
Set against a backdrop of sweeping staircases and glittering Swarovski chandeliers, the newlyweds are said to have spared no expense with local Queensland delicacies on the menu and plenty of Wally’s beloved XXXX beers on offer.
While details of the guest list remain under wraps, it is understood Lewis’ three adult children — Mitchell, Lincoln, and Jamie-Lee — did not attend, amid longstanding family tensions following his high-profile split from wife of 36 years, Jacqui.
There were reports that his relationship with Adams began before the marriage ended.
Despite the controversies, Lewis and Adams, who have been publicly together since early 2021, appear to be starting a bold new chapter.
Lewis has previously credited Adams for supporting him through his challenging health journey, including his diagnosis of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
