Anzac Day services Toowoomba 2025: Commemorative group honours a recent lost veteran
As local defence force commemorative groups get smaller and smaller, remembering veterans could be more important now than ever. Here’s how you can pay tribute to Australia’s servicemen and women this Anzac Day:

It could be the last year Toowoomba sees the Union Jack being flown in the Anzac Day parade, as British Ex-Services Association Chairman says the ageing group might not be around for much longer.
BESA, a group that brings together former members of British armed forces, sadly lost another veteran last week.
Thomas Goodwin passed away on Easter Saturday at age 85 and was a loyal Air Force veteran.
He will be remembered by BESA as they lay down a wreath at the Anzac Day service, commemorating soldiers who have fought in wars.
Toowoomba BESA chairman Captain Ken Barclay, 86, said it was like losing family every time he watched the group of veterans get smaller and smaller.
“He was not just a friend, but family,” he said.
“He is a character that will be dearly missed.”
With only nine members left marching this year, Captain Barclay said he wouldn’t be surprised if it is one of the last years the group marches in the parade.
“The last of us will be parading with the union flag this Anzac Day as we always have done,” he said.
“By this time next year, we’re likely to be missing a few more.
“Then you’re going to lose all the history.”

5.15am - 5.30am: Dawn parade, starts at Toowoomba Bus Station, Neil Street. Left onto Margaret Street to Mothers’ Memorial.
5.30am - 6.30am: Dawn service, Mothers’ Memorial.
9am - 9.50am: Wreath laying service, Mothers’ Memorial.
10am - 10.20am: Main parade, starts at the corner of Margaret and Neil Street. Heads east along Margaret Street to Mothers’ Memorial.
10.20am - 11.30am: Main service, Mothers’ Memorial.
Acland

Cecil Plains
9.45am: March from Railway Station to Cenotaph, Henry Stuart Russell Park
Clifton
5.15am: Dawn service, Clifton Cenotaph, Edward Street.
