A raid by the tactical crime squad executed at a suburban Toowoomba home uncovered a bottle of steroids with almost 50 tablets inside, a court has been told.

Police prosecutor Kinsley Weir said when officers arrived at the address at 6.30am on March 8, the people at the house said Michael James Swain had just moved in and directed them to his room.

Senior Constable Weir said Swain’s room was noticeably clean and organised, and officers found the bottle of steroids in his bedside table.

Senior Constable Weir also noted Swain was on a probation order for possessing cocaine and cannabis at the time of the raid, and he admitted to police he knew it was illegal to possess the drug without out prescription.

While acting as duty lawyer, Joe McConnell said the 29-year-old instructed him that he was not using the drugs, they were old, and he had forgotten he had them.

Mr McConnell said Swain had full-time work as a concreter and was in the process of getting his mental health and drug problem under control.

The court was told Swain started dating his partner seven months ago, with the relationship providing him with a lot of support.

On Monday, April 17, Swain faced Toowoomba Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs and was fined $1000.
