Toowoomba’s most powerful family has put forward plans for a new 111-lot subdivision in a bid to meet growing demand for more housing.

Wagner Corporation, which is owned by the wealthy Wagner family, lodged plans with the Toowoomba Regional Council for a nine-hectare parcel of rural land off West Street in Kearneys Spring.

If approved, the “variation request” will allow the council to treat the land as low-medium residential, paving the way for a subsequent two-stage subdivision.

Company director Denis Wagner said Toowoomba had a shortage of lots close to the heart of the city.

“There is a critical shortage of developable land within what’s known as the priority infrastructure area,” he said.

“It will meet some of the demand — the time is right now, there’s not enough land to meet demand.”

Mr Wagner said the company was planning to develop further land parcels into estates in the near future.
