The state government has announced that a Toowoomba Manufacturing Hub is just weeks away from opening its doors and it will offer local businesses training, mentorship and support to grow.
Delivering on an election promise, the LNP has invested $10m into new manufacturing hubs across Queensland.
Manufacturing Minister Dale Last said the hub, which will be co-located at Toowoomba TAFE, will offer manufacturing businesses a facility where they can talk about their workplace planning processes, offer technology innovation, and improve digital processes.
“This hub will join six other hubs in Queensland to grow, innovate, to future proof our manufacturing businesses here in Toowoomba,” he said.
“The manufacturers have really found some significant benefits and savings in terms of making their businesses more efficient, and learn how to grow their business.
“I’m calling it the sleeping giant of Queensland, so much potential in the manufacturing space.”
Mr Last said he hopes to be back in four to six weeks for the official opening of the hub.
“The finishing touches are going on as we speak,” he said.
“(It will be) open to any manufacturing business from the backyard businesses, right through to those businesses that have hundreds and hundreds of employees.”
Mr Last said the hub will start with at least two staff members and hire more as required.
“They will also facilitate training as well, and bringing those outside experts as required, facilitators to deliver training,” he said.
Toowoomba North MP Trevor Watts said Toowoomba has been a hub for the agriculture industry and this investment will drive productivity and bring wealth to the region.
“This is a great opportunity for people to share ideas, mentor each other, co-operate, collaborate and therefore expanding businesses, increasing productivity and bringing wealth to our region,” he said.
