Toowoomba’s La Taste pizza, takeaway restaurant plans new location in Harristown

A Toowoomba restaurant that has regularly been named as having the city’s best pizza is planning a new location in a western suburb — but that doesn’t mean the owners are moving.

Entire fast-food industry is ‘buoyant at the moment’

The owners of an award-winning and popular Toowoomba pizza and takeaway shop have lodged plans for a new location under the same branding.

In what has been described as a tentative expansion, the owners of La Taste have submitted a development application with the Toowoomba Regional Council to create a new takeaway eatery inside a mixed industrial complex on Anzac Avenue in Harristown.

According to the report by Precinct Urban Planning’s James Williams, the new eatery will promise less than half of the planned tenancy.

“The existing tenancy will undergo internal reconfiguration that will see the proposed development consist of a front servery/pick up area of approximately 25 sqm, and a kitchen food preparation area, including a cold room and storage areas, of approximately 89 sqm,” the report said.

“The development will use communal amenities within the balance area of the tenancy.

“It is noted that the proposed development will not contain any drive-through or dining facilities.”

It is not believed the owners will close the existing shop on Ruthven Street in Toowoomba City, a site which has remained popular with locals for many years.

La Taste has been a regular winner of The Chronicle’s Best Pizza in Toowoomba competition (including as recently as 2021) and is known for its distinctive supreme pizza featuring prawns.

The council has yet to respond to the application, which is code-assessable and therefore does not require a public notification period.
