La Taste Takeaway’s Paul Worrall’s approach to making pizza is pretty simple — if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
The veteran Italian eatery owner and his wife Katie have taken out The Chronicle’s Best Pizza in Toowoomba competition for an incredible fifth time during its eight years in operation.
Mr Worrall, who used to own a La Porchetta franchise in Toowoomba and La Frescos in Highfields, said his menu had basically not changed in nearly a decade.
“I haven’t changed much at all,” he said proudly.
“My uncle had a pizza shop for 28 years, and he never changed a thing – never the ingredients, never the sauce.
“Some places are doing dessert pizzas and all that, but for me it’s all about consistency.
“I’ve promoted by business on good service, and I do think Toowoomba lacks a lot of good service.”
Even with more than a dozen staff, Mr Worrall can be found out the back making the pizzas bases from dough, to ensure every item was consistent.
“There are a lot of pizza places that don’t make their pizza bases anymore, they just buy them in,” he said.
“We appreciate the craft of making a pizza, we’ve been doing it a long time.”
But dealing with customers was always the most satisfying part of the job for Mr Worrall.
“I love working with food and I also love having a good chat with the people.
“We’re over the moon about the win.”
