A slate of new disability accommodation could be coming to a leafy Toowoomba suburb, after plans were lodged with the council.
Applicant Michael John Knights submitted plans last week for seven new specialist disability units on 2100 sqm of land on Vacy Street in Newtown, opposite Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre.
According to Alpha Planning Applications’ Andrew Hill, the series of buildings will feature 11 bedrooms in total.
“The proposed residential care facility units are comprised of seven units contained within five separate buildings,” he wrote.
“The proposed units’ density, height, bulk, scale, setbacks and design are generally compliant with, or in excess of, the planning scheme’s requirements and generally in keeping with the intent of the zone and the residential character of the surrounding area.
“The proposed development is designed to a high aesthetic standard and will integrate with and enhance the streetscape, having regard to built form, open space, landscaping and the public realm parking, access, solar access of both onsite and adjoining properties.”
It is the latest application for specialist disability accommodation in Toowoomba, with several proposals submitted to council over the past two years.
These include a pair of unit sets in Newtown, lodged just last month.
A plan for 11 units on the site had been approved by the council back in 2016.
