More special housing has been planned for a Toowoomba suburb to help residents with disabilities who want to live independently.
Applicant SandSky Developments submitted the proposal to the Toowoomba Regional Council in December for five one-bedroom units on Berry Street in Wilsonton.
It comes a year after the same developer was approved for a set of four disability units on a different block in the same street.
According to the report by McLynskey Planners, the development will managed by a single operator.
“The proposal is to construct accommodation for disabled and semi-disabled community members who wish to live as independently as they can but need assistance in daily activities and may also require overnight carer or nursing assistance,” the report said.
“The unit design is dictated by NDIS specialist disability accommodation (SDA) design standards and includes fixtures and elements that will improve accessibility and usability for residents with special needs.
“By its nature, this development will be low impact with very limited traffic and noise.
“The facility will be run by a single operator and the care of residents will be a co-ordinated and supervised approach.”
Reports were also submitted relating to stormwater and landscaping.
The proposed driveway for the facility is currently being blocked by a power pole, but it is understood Ergon is moving it.
