Toowoomba’s most prominent developer Clive Berghofer is nearly halfway through the development of one of few current subdivision projects in the city’s southern suburbs.
Mr Berghofer, who by his own estimate has developed more than 10,000 lots in the Garden City, last week lodged plans with the Toowoomba Regional Council to create an extra 34 new lots on a vacant parcel of land fronting West Street in Kearneys Spring.
The new reconfiguration of lots application acts as the fifth stage of his company’s Kearney West Estate, which is slated to go up to 10 stages and comprise more than 340 lots.
According to the report by Precinct Urban Planning, the new lots will range from 540 sqm to 880 sqm, at an average of 622 sqm.
“The site is located approximately 450 metres south of Uniplaza Court shopping village and approximately 630 metres south of the University of Southern Queensland,” the report said.
On the website, Mr Berghofer’s company said the first two stages had already sold out.
“This 350 lot subdivision will eventually span across the paddock from Kearney Street to West Street, and to Nelson Street on the north,” it said.
“The 10 stages will be developed and sold over a number of years in this popular residential area of Toowoomba.
“The easement on Kearney Street has been landscaped to create a linear park and a pedestrian pathway and exercise trail have been included.
“This green space, together with the landscaped detention basins to the south of Stage 1 and the Carly Hibberd Park in Kearney East Estate, provide open space for the kids to run and play.”
The council has yet to respond to the application with an information request.
