THE bold $65m vision to transform Toowoomba CBD in the coming decades has invoked a passionate response from Chronicle readers.

Hundreds of Chronicle readers reacted to the new footage of the Railway Parklands precinct, which has been in the works for years and could take decades to be realised.

The centrepiece of the massive project, which is designed to boost business and increase inner-city living is a huge multi-use green space connected to the upgrade Railway Goods Shed.

The ambitious footage showcases incredible attractions like a massive slide, community spaces and walking tracks along with grassy areas.

It comes as Groom MP Garth Hamilton and the Toowoomba Regional Council united to push for the project’s inclusion in the upcoming southeast Queensland City Deal.

Plenty of residents were thrilled by the designs, arguing it would be a worthwhile investment in the city’s future.

“What a great asset for Toowoomba! Hope it happens,” Sharyn Taylor wrote.

“Great news, finally somewhere for families to go and enjoy. Looks awesome,” Dianne Marshall added.

Others were less thrilled, suggesting the money could be better spent on other types of infrastructure.

“No thanks, $65 million for this! Pretty sure that money would be much better invested elsewhere,” Sandi Perrin wrote.

“Surely fixing the roads and water shortage problems should come before a huge slide? Excessive amount of money for not much by the looks of it,” Amanda Weaver said.

Several pointed out that critics of the concept were not thinking far enough ahead.

“Amazed at how short sighted most people are on this subject,” Badge McKeon added.

“Maybe if money is spent on great options like this, it will attract more people to the town, to spend more money.”
