Potential tenants are already circling a major heritage-listed property in the Toowoomba CBD, which is in the middle an incredible revitalisation.
The Toowoomba Foundry, which was first built in 1874 and run until 2012, is being converted into lavish office space thanks to the work of two Toowoomba families.
Work started on the refurbishment last year, with the new spaces kept basic to allow for tenant fit-outs.
Once a major manufacturer of steam engines, windmills and wool presses, LJ Hooker principal Mike Stewart said it could soon be home to businesses from the medical and the professional services fields.
“There are a couple of big spaces in there, and those are the sort of open-space workplaces,” he said.
“There’s been a lot of interest – we have had some people close to finalising deals, so in our view we think we’ll sort all the leases out in a medium term.
“We want someone who will enjoy that open space, that urban industrial feel.”
Newlands completed the refurbishment of the northern and central sections of the foundry, with FKG currently scheduled to complete the southern area by June.
Mr Stewart said the was a need for new office space in the Toowoomba CBD.
“If you need a big floorspace, it’s hard to find elsewhere,” he said.
“You can get a bit of room in Easternwell, but it’s hard to find floor spaces of 500 sqm.”
The Foundry was possibly best known for the creation and production of the Southern Cross windmill, which became a symbol of rural Australia.
