A report into Toowoomba’s Olympic opportunities ahead of the 2032 Brisbane Games will remain secret from the public, with the council citing the competitive nature of the build-up to the event.
Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise’s Mark Mason delivered his final report to councillors at Tuesday’s meeting during a confidential session.
The document reportedly looked into a range of ways the region could capitalise on the games, through sport and other industries.
According to the council, the report needed to remain confidential so other local government's weren’t aware of its activities.
“This report addresses the strategy of Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise, to competitively secure Olympic opportunities for the Toowoomba region and therefore it is recommended that the meeting be closed to the public,” the council’s agenda said.
Toowoomba has been promised some preliminary football matches at the games, with the State Government planning to upgrade Clive Berghofer Stadium.
