The tiny community of Vale View will become the latest town connected to the council’s bulk water supply, with residents soon able to access lower water restrictions.
The Toowoomba Regional Council has started work on a $1m project to lay a 2.17km trunk water main to link 100 homes to town water.
The community has been on high level water restrictions (just 150 litres per person daily) since 2019, due to the unreliability of nearby bores.
Deputy mayor Rebecca Vonhoff said Vale View homes would soon be able to use 200 litres per person daily, joining all but two communities across the Toowoomba region.
“Connecting to the Bulk Water Supply network provides the Vale View community with improved water quality and long-term security of supply for the area,” she said.
“It’s a positive outcome for the community as these Vale View residents have been on high-level water restrictions since June 2019 due to the unreliability of the bore that previously supplied their homes.
“Residents in that Vale View area can now transition to low-level restrictions in line with other areas on the Bulk Water Supply.”
The old bore which had supplied the area will now be decommissioned.
The move sees Cambooya (high) and Greenmount (medium) as the only communities remaining still on significant water restrictions across the region.
