Many roads across Queensland remain closed due to flash flooding after much of the state was swamped with heavy rain.
More than a hundred roads remain closed Wednesday morning, with many located north of Brisbane, where 300mm fell on Monday night, including Lockyer Valley, which is currently under a state of alert, reports the Courier-Mail.
It comes as more than 115,000 homes and businesses lost power when ex-Tropical Cyclone Kirrily struck the sunshine state, tearing a path of devastation through northern Queensland.
While “intense rainfall conditions have eased across southern and southeast Queensland overnight,” according to Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, “now is not the time to be complacent.”
“Creeks and river catchments remain swollen, and many roads remain impacted,” said QFES on Facebook, urging motorists to monitor their local council disaster dashboards to stay updated with the latest road closures.
“It is never a good idea to try and drive though floodwater.”
