Ten brave young women have stood in solidarity with the 135,000 Australians living with blood cancer or disorders by shaving their heads and raising nearly $70,000.

More than 50 Fairholme College students took part in the Shave For a Cure initiative by opting to either shave their heads or colour their hair.

Among the 10 who went under the clippers to shave off their locks was Abigail Crocker.

“We did this to show support for the people who don’t have the opportunity to make the choice, to make them feel less alone and to raise money for research,” she said.

“To fully shave my head was a way to fully commit myself to the cause and to tell the people struggling that I’m here for them.”

The year 12 student said her grade raised almost $70,000 through various school fundraisers and a record number of students choosing to shave their heads this year.

“We’ve all worked really hard,” she said.

“(Our cohort) is one big family, we always support each other and this makes me feel so proud to be part of this school.”
