Queensland State Rose Garden in Newtown Park all in bloom

They’re not usually ready for Carnival of Flowers visitors, having been pruned back in June. But the Queensland State Rose Garden has now erupted into a riot of colour and perfume.

OCTOBER is a good month in Newtown Park – for obvious reasons.

The Queensland State Rose Garden in Newtown Park, pruned back in July, has erupted into a riot of colour.

President Sandy Martin said this was the park’s “first spectacular flowering for the first rose season”.

“The smell of the blossoms is really lovely as well.”

While the blooms make for a perfect day out at the park for a picnic or family gathering, there’s also an opportunity for the public to get involved.

Rose garden tours are back for the first time since the pandemic hit.

This month, the tour will be on October 31 at 8.30am, meeting at the Rose Cottage.

The tour is free and people can bring a container, gloves and secateurs to help deadhead the spent blooms, all while learning about the different varieties and the history of the park.
