After going into hibernation for a year while the world battled with a global pandemic, one of Australia’s most beloved and most beautiful heritage events, Opera at Jimbour, returns to its home in the Western Downs from June 25 – 27.

Set amid the glorious grounds of the iconic Jimbour House, the Opera at Jimbour will this year (for the first time) be opening its doors to the famed estate and debuting an exciting new format both within the house and the grounds.

Featuring stars from Opera Queensland and Ensemble Q, including internationally renowned violin player Natsuko Yoshimoto, co-director and cellist Trish Dean and Paul Dean, who is regarded as one of Australia’s foremost musicians, along with the state’s best chamber musicians, Opera at Jimbour will continue to prove its world-famous status within the global music community.

Now part of the newly unveiled Queensland Music Trail, the Opera at Jimbour program includes two breathtaking gala events on the Saturday and Sunday, a hangar concert under the twinkling lights featuring exquisite chamber music, a recital inside the opulent drawing room and exclusive tours through the halls of the historic homestead.

The weekend is part of the first Outback Music Trail, which continues in Charleville on June 29 and 30 with Kate-Miller Heidke and acclaimed Kalkadunga artist William Barton delivering Music For Stargazing.

After a short jaunt west through the red sandy plains of the Mariala National Park, it’s over to the remote town of Quilpie, for Echoes In the Dust on July 1 and 2.

Here the magnificent boulders of the Baldy Top lookout provide the backdrop to an immersive musical experience.

Musical soundscapes from Topology and giant dinosaur puppets from Dead Puppet Society will transport visitors to ancient times in this one-of-a-kind performance.

The tour then heads to Windorah Park on July 3 and 4, before culminating with Paul Kelly, Ian Moss, Tim Finn, Shannon Noll and countless others taking on stage over three days at the iconic Big Red Bash.

Opera at Jimbour is a Queensland Music Trails event presented by QMF, Western Downs Regional Council, Opera Queensland and Jimbour Events, and supported by the Australian Government through the Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund, and the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland’s Spaces and Places Activation fund.

The event is also supported by Tourism and Events Queensland.
