From thong throwing competitions to the KR Plumbing Supplies Australian Dunny Race Titles to the Oakey Beef Export Raft Race, Australia Day celebrations will be in full swing in Oakey on Wednesday.
Local teams have been busy building unique and interesting Dunny Carts for the big race to be held as part of Australia Day fun and games at Arthur Shooter Park in Oakey from 8.30am.
“The awards ceremony will be held from 8.30am with the fun and games to start about 9.45am,” Oakey Australia Day committee member Craig Commens said.
“There will be billy boiling first off in the morning and while that’s going on the judges will be judging the best dunny carts and rafts.
“Council won’t let us into the creek so the raft race will be a dry run on the creek banks.”
Mr Commens said Arthur Shooter Park was big enough to cater for the large crowd expected with social distancing.
“The Oakey Junior Rugby League will be catering for breakfast and lunch and there’ll be a coffee van on site,” Mr Commens said.
“We’ve got an inflatable slide for the kiddies which is free.
“We also have the Junior and Open Ironman competitions and this year we’ve included a wheelie bin leg in the Open Ironman.
“There will also be a wheelie bin race so there will be plenty of laughs on the day for all competitors and spectators.”
