It’s almost as if Jack and Jill Stratton were born to compete in the Jack and Jill sawing event — they’ve got the ribbons to prove it.
The mother and son team took out the dual sawing category as part of the woodchopping events at the Heritage Bank Toowoomba Royal Show on Saturday.
Having won the same event at the Sydney Royal Show, Mrs Stratton said she was delighted to claim a second win in Toowoomba, along with her 16-year-old son.
“You don’t have to be super strong, but timing is essential, and knowing how each other saws and doing it all correctly,” she said.
“If you get the technique, you should sync together if you train together.
“It’s not every day you get to compete with your family members and woodchopping allows that.”
Woodchop steward and Toowoomba Deputy Mayor Geoff McDonald said he was thrilled to see events up and running again.
“Just to see the same faces again and the camaraderie is great,” he said.
Woodchop was just one of countless events at the show on Saturday, which was slightly hampered by some wet weather in the afternoon.
Other attractions included the Creative Collective Fashion Parade, equestrian events, Dirtgirl and Costa Georgiadis and Eroni’s Circus.
