Students at Centenary Heights State School are getting ready to board the Hogwarts Express for the Harry Potter parody production, Puffs.
Year 12 student Casey Wall-Poelstra, who plays Oliver Rivers in Puffs, has been a Harry Potter fan since he was little but he has never acted until now.
“Younger me never would have imagined that I’d be in something like this,” he said.
“I auditioned for one of the smaller lead roles actually, and even then I didn’t think I would get it.”
Playing the Hufflepuff version of Ron Weasley, Casey said although the characters might not be very bright they show the power of loyalty and kindness.
“I really love that it (Puffs) explores the gaps and silences around the almost forgotten house,” he said.
“It explores how you don’t have to be perfect and you don’t have to fit in with everyone else.”
Casey Wall-Poelstra, Lara Anderson, and Eden Coates are taking on the lead roles of Oliver, Jane, and Megan who are the Harry, Ron, and Hermione of Hufflepuff.
Puffs Co-Director Louise Willson said it has been a joy to watch the group of year 7 to year 12 students turning into the witches and wizards.
“The play is about finding the people who accept you for who you are and theatre kids are the best at doing that in real life,” she said.
“I challenge you to find a student who isn’t smiling after they exit a stage full of their supportive peers.”
The production will be brought to life by more than 150 students and staff this week.
The show will be performed from June 25 to June 27 at 6.30pm with snacks and butterbeer available.
