Carinity Brownesholme Retirement Village welcomes former chaplain into role of manager

A retirement village north of Toowoomba has welcomed its third village manager in its 26 year history.

New Aldi opens at Highfields

A well-travelled former chaplain is now overseeing the running of a popular

seniors’ community village in Highfields.

Peter Aspin is the new manager of the Carinity Brownesholme retirement village.

Prior to coming to Carinity Brownesholme, he was living and working as a chaplain in Alice Springs.

“This role entailed varied activities across the local network and community. I have worked previously in pastoral, sales and commercial fields,” Mr Aspin said.

He is a former auctioneer and minister who pastored at churches in Auckland, Noosa, Emerald and Toowoomba.

“Church leadership is fulfilling but life as an auctioneer was fast paced. Every role presents different challenges.”

Peter is just the third village manager at Carinity Brownesholme in its 26-year history.

Managing Carinity Brownesholme is “both commercial and pastoral” for Peter, and his favourite aspect of his new role is interacting with around 80 retirees who live there.

“Our residents are amazing. We have 61 independent living units, and every resident has wonderful stories to tell,” he said.

“Their stories and the graciousness that comes through a settled and rich life are a constant source of inspiration.”

The retirement village is co-located with a new Carinity aged care community which is scheduled to open mid-year.

It is anticipated that more than 90 local staff will work at the new 96-bed aged care community when it opens.

“My hope is that Carinity Brownesholme will continue to grow and enrich the lives of all residents, present and future. To be a small part of the story is a reward in itself,” Mr Aspin said.

The seniors’ community is set on a former dairy farm and is operated by Carinity, a Queensland not-for-profit which also offers home care services around the Darling Downs region.
