THE Empire Theatre is closed and all performances are cancelled, following the Government's announcement of a ban on indoor public gatherings over 100 people.

THE Empire Theatre is closed and all performances are cancelled, following the Federal Government's announcement of a ban on indoor public gatherings over 100 people.

In a social media post, The Empire Theatre said The Sapphires, originally scheduled to be performed tonight, would not proceed.

"All performances between now and April 30 will be cancelled or postponed until later in the year," the post said. 

"As more information comes to light, we will continue to update our patrons and we will contact you regarding refunds and ticket transfers.

"We thank you for your patience as we work through this complicated situation."
