Cinderella's arrival a sign of more to come

Cinderella at the Empire

A PUMPKIN carriage might have been more comfortable, but Cinderella's grand entrance to the Empire Theatre was certainly fit for royalty.

The fairytale princess stopped traffic as she stepped en pointe out of a Wagners' front-end loader into Neil St ahead of tonight's performance.

Queensland's Ballet's new production of Ben Stevenson's Cinderella is in Toowoomba for one night only as part of its regional tour, thanks to the support of Wagners and the Empire Theatre.

Cinderella principal dancer Clare Morehen said it was a privilege to share the production with regional audiences, with her company being one of the few who travelled out to these areas.

"The regional audiences are so responsive and eager to come up and talk to me after a show," she said.

"It's a beautiful ballet."

Wagners chairman John Wagner said bringing acts like the Queensland Ballet to Toowoomba was a huge boost for the region's arts and tourism.

"The Empire is such a fantastic facility and there's so much talent in Toowoomba - we need to make sure the rest of the world knows about it," he said.

"The airport will offer a great opportunity to bring productions like these to Toowoomba, but also to send people out to see them in places like Melbourne and Sydney."
